Daniel Gould to Jim Driscoll

Hi JD;

...This is frustrating; it is the third time I have tried sending this
piece.

It is a heart warming baseball story and it also exemplifies why we
Cubby fans idolize and continue our annual support come hell or high
water.

daniel gould has sent you a message from
MLB.com.

On Hall day, Santo honored for more than baseball

In 2001, Ron Santo had a leg amputated due to complications from his
diabetes. That came after he'd had 10 operations in the previous 10
months. A year later, he discovered a sore on his other foot and, after
weighing his options, decided to have that leg amputated as well.

Hi JD;

I welcome the change in topics...Especially towards the direction of BB.

Ironically, only a minute ago, I sent to you an article about Ron Santo and with comments about loving the Cubs...And just when I was giving up on them---oh, the horror, the horror---they win 12 out of the last 15, but that was before the weekend, in St Louis, and it was down three in a row.

I am pleased with Castro even though he is hitting only .282; pleased because of how many doubles, stolen bases, triples---not to mention---homeruns he has thus far. I do expect him to get hot and end the season at .300 or better...Barney? Well, this is player you gotta follow daily to appreciate his value to the team. He can hit in the clutch like Yogi Berra. He has come up with a lot of game winning hits and his fielding is excellent...Rizzo! Another boy-wonder. He has the makings of being a real superstar; he does it all. Since coming up from the minors he has added a spark to the team that resulted in that 12 wins in 15 games.

These recent developments got me to thinking that there could be one of those miraculous comebacks---hey, maybe that could get me to reignite my faith. The next 10  ten days are important because of the trading deadline. Demester is on the block---he has the best ERA in the majors---as well as others. Managements thinking is that the season is over and they can fish for good players in return for great ones. I hope they keep what they got!

...The seasons not over until its over...Not by a long shot.

Sincerely;

Dan

TRUE............THE SEASON ISN'T OVER 'TIL IT'S OVER....BUT, FOR THE
CUBS......................IT'S OVER.................................JD

Hi JD;

Whatta you mean for the Cubs its over? Blasphemy...Yesterday, Jeff Samardzija pitched eight innings giving up one hit; the Cubs only got four, but Castro was on base twice to score on hits by Soriano...It doesn't get any better.

But I now understand where you are coming from...You are a hopeless pessimist. Just a few months ago you remarked that NOTHING could help the Angels, not even Pujols...but they are in second place in their division with Trout hitting .357, Trumbo, .302 and Pujols a lowly .280 BUT with 18 home runs...Wait 'til he gets hot! The pitching looks pretty good too with Weaver at 21-1...Ooops, that 12-1... and Wilson at a respectable 9-6 and a 2.89 ERA.

I DO NOT understand pessimism...It is so self defeating; not to mention boring, masochistic, frustrating, et al..."You gotta look at the bright side of life...my friend...Kid you not!

Sincerely;

Dan

SHOCKING SPORTS ITEM......................

Wimbledon hopeful Simona Halep wants surgery to reduce the size of her breasts.

Halep is seen as one of the tennis stars of the future after winning a host of junior titles and a place in the final of the junior French Open last year.
But the 5-foot-5-inch Romanian tennis star said she thinks her 34DD bust is holding her back.
"This autumn I'll have a breast reduction operation" Halep said. "The breasts make me uncomfortable when I play."
"It's the weight that troubles me and my ability to react quickly" she added.

Hi JD;

I sent to you a proposal for two books. You have NOT acknowledged
it.

Walter, my agent, and I are now doing the preliminary editing. I
am dividing the books in this manner: ON GOD and A Conservative vs a
Liberal.

As to the second title, I am dividing that into various sections
BASEBALL and MOVIES. Other sections will be Political/Social, Art,
etc.

As I explained to you in the previous letter I can do one of two
versions: So what do you want? If I do the first version you will have
promotion for "Reflections of a B-movie addict," the Schlockmeister Reviews
and Scoop Johnson. In the attached example, I have inserted one Scoop
Johnson as an example. At the end of the report, there will be a
click on, to your web-site, where someone can purchase the complete set
(I assume you think it is unlikely that anyone would be interested,
but remember it is just another projection of your persona and this is
what will attract the curious). The same method will be used with the
MOVIES section. There will be at least one, Schlockmeister Review and a
click on for purchase of the rest.

Please, a decision.

Sincerely;

Dan

Hi JD;

To quote from Field of Dreams "If you build it, the people will
come..." or words to that effect.

First of all, this is a new concept. I see it as having been inspired
by the enormous success of reality TV. At heart, most of us are
voyeurs; we read the gossip columnist and tell-all books. Most of it is
just drivel, but people like it. So I came up with the idea of "reality
mails."  My agent and I are now exploring the option of setting up a
web-site where people will be able to submit their e-mail
correspondences to be posted on line. They will be marketed to the
public...And this leads us back to the first question: Why would anyone
want to buy it?

I think I mentioned that my blogspot is read in at least 10 countries.
How people in China, Russia, Brazil, et al found it, I have NO idea.
Why they read it is even more of a mystery. But, the statistics are
there and month after month they continue to click-on. I now propose to
offer something more universal as far as interest is concerned. In the
outline for the web-site two things will be unwelcomed: pornography and
racism.

As to interest in Schlockmeister and Scoop Johnson Report,  all I can
say is that I see a market niche in the former and maybe a small one in
the second category. People reading the section on MOVIES will come
upon one Schlockmeister Review and be able to read it FREE. If they
like it, they can click on to buy the complete series; and as I have
said, there will be an advert for "Reflections..." too. I like the
Reviews because they are funny, ironic, satirical, etc. Sometimes I
think there is a large scoop of Everyman in my make-up; I sense what
 people will like.

As to the Scoop Johnson Report , I assume that their is also small
niche market. People who read the other categories will develop a
curiosity about you; the Scoop Report is just an extension of who you
are and an endearing one: A grandpa taking a big and active interest in
his grandchildren.

Again, this is a test and only a test...You have no investment to make
and there is the potential for another income. How much?  Anyone's
guess! Any thing appearing on the Internet means the "books"  will
always be in-print.

As to your insistence in regard to cleaning up the e-mails, I am very
pleased that you have brought it up. I have spent more time in
pondering over this than most other aspects. I like the idea of it
being "raw," that it, posted as it was sent...However, as I edit I see
silly mistakes in spelling and---in my case---complete
misrepresentation of the word because of my auditory dyslexic. Your
comments convinces me that there should be such editing.

Sincerely;

Dan
