On God #26

I see the atheistic professors of your later education have permeated your soul and destroyed your faith. That's too bad. I'm curious as to how much faith you put into the 4 Gospels, and how you explain the ressurection, the one proof that makes Christ (not "a Christ" ) so unique.  May I recommend "THE CASE FOR CHRIST" , by Lee Strobel.  It's really an equal argument for the authenticity of the 4 gospels, which then lead you to Christ.

And I also still wonder how a man of your learning and insight into this subject, now closing in on 70, can still call himself an agnostic?  Isn't it about time you settled on an answer, some answer, that fits all the facts your mind has assembled???

Hi JD;

To the best of my knowledge I NEVER had an atheistic professor. I seriously doubt you will find one at a Jesuit university; and Saint Louis University is a Jesuit school. US News and World Report recently ranked it #64 in the USofA; and it is ranked #3 or #4---depending on the source---in the list of Catholic colleges: #1. Notre Dame; #2. Georgetown (Jesuit); #3 or #4. Boston College (Jesuit). The point is, it has and has had an exemplary taching staff. It has the highest ratio of Priest to lay faculity of any Catholic university. Of course, the Jesuits are NOT amongest the favorite order of popes. Too liberal. Ooops!  There's the "L"  word.

You kow the song, "Last night a dj saved my life?"  In my case, it was the Jesuits. They gave me the tools---an encouraged me---to investigate in an objective way.

As to the "faith"  I put into the Gospels...Well, not much. Afterall they were written 50 to 100 years after the supposed death of Christ on the cross. Again, "The Passover Plot"  gives a very interesting description of the crucification; and the ressurection? Needless to say, I do NOT think there was one.

As to how someone close to 70 can still call himself an agnostic? Well, again, it is because of all the "facts your [my] mind has assembled"  that I can do so. Would I like to come to an answer? Damn right! Will I be able to achieve that before my death? NO. Why? In the "dialogs"  I mention the first two question in the Baltimore Cathecism: Who made us?  God. Who is God? God always was and always will be. Strangly enough, with the facts that I have at hand you can transfer that same question to the scientific approach. Einstein couldn't come up with an answer therefore I think it would be highly naive of me too think I might be able to pull it off.

Sincerely;

Dan

How in the world do you long-hairs, when you manage to get together face to face, manage to avoid putting each other to sleep???

Hi JD;

"How in the world do you long-hairs....manage to avoid putting each other to sleep???"

What a naive question. The subject matter is absolutely fascinating. To understand the nature and meaning of life is never boring. Personally, I wonder how people can sit around and discuss creation theory with a straight face; not to mention wasting valuable time talking about a subject where there is no scientific nor factual support and, indeed, scientific fact disproves its possibility.

I am still working on my reply to your suggestion that I read Lee Strobel. I hope to write it this coming Sunday.

Sincerely;

Dan
